Family garden in east London

Location: East London

Status: Completed

Project: Residential

In Leyton, east London we’ve crafted a family garden in dialogue with the broader architectural enhancements made to the house.

A number of connected garden spaces have been created. A generous terrace spills out from the kitchen with a beautiful oak table and benches at the heart of it. Gradual generous, playful steps – steps that can be used for lounging and seating for bigger groups of friends and family – lead up through perennial planting and crab apples to a meadow, where we have replaced the lawn with nectar-rich species and early season bulbs that are gently naturalising.

Further on, the productive garden with raised beds is full of seasonal produce and cut flowers as well as  characterfully gnarly apple trees and a reclaimed stone basin feature with a useful tap point. At the end of the garden, screened by yew hedging a storage zone provides practicality without compromising the garden’s aesthetic appeal.
