Roof Terrace, Central London

Location: Central London

Client: Private

Style: Roof terrace

Project: Selected Projects, Town & Roof Gardens

This 185 sq m roof terrace garden, located on the top of a Grade II listed building in the heart of the West End, has recently received planning approval.

The building itself has a rich and wonderful history with attractive Beaux Arts detailing, and we have taken references from the interiors and exteriors to create a space that has a sympathetic relationship to the architecture. Our design has woven in the rich history and use of the building with the interests of our clients to provide a hidden and unexpected green delight – a retreat from the city, but connected to it by expansive views.

Our clients are passionate about culture, plants, cooking and entertaining, and the garden embraces all these interests in a series of spaces defined by planting and the wonderfully handsome original chimney stacks. The space also includes a fully functioning kitchen with fridge, storage and cooking area. Planting is productive wherever possible with lots of herbs, as well as uplifts of seasonal bulbs creating rhythm and colour throughout the year. An eclectic selection of seasonal pots softens the formal planters for trees and shrubs.
