Harris Bugg Studio is an award-winning landscape and garden design practice based in London, Devon and Scotland.

Working across the UK and Europe, we are known for creating beautiful, environmentally intelligent landscapes and gardens that are rooted in place, rich in meaning, and resilient in the face of a changing climate.

Founded by Charlotte Harris and Hugo Bugg in 2017, the studio has earned an international reputation for combining design elegance with ecological depth, crafting spaces that are as emotionally resonant as they are environmentally responsive. From regenerative rooftop forests to historic garden restoration, our work spans scales and typologies, united by a belief in the transformative power of landscape.

Thoughtful

At the heart of our studio’s practice is a commitment to thoughtful garden and landscape design, creating spaces that evolve gracefully over time, support biodiversity, and nourish human experience.

The studio is particularly known for:

A belief in the power of stories of place — drawing on history, memory, geography, and community to shape landscapes that feel grounded, meaningful, and specific.

Planting that is soulful, structured, and seasonal — balancing naturalism with legibility.

Resilient landscapes that respond to water, soil, and climate challenges with subtlety and intelligence.

A deep understanding of how landscape design intersects with environmental, social and cultural need.

Innovative

The studio is recognised for its progressive thinking, often pioneering circular design strategies, sustainable materials, and regenerative approaches in collaboration with architects, developers, artists, and institutions.

Whether working with the RHS, private clients, or forward-thinking developers, we design landscapes of the future: inclusive, adaptable, and generous.

Collaborative

A hallmark of the studio’s work is deep listening; every project is approached with care and curiosity, ensuring the outcome has lasting meaning and utility. Through collaboration and sensitivity, we ensure that each space reflects its users both human and non -human, and the narratives of the land itself.

Award-winning

Our work has been honoured with multiple awards, including five RHS Gold Medals at the Chelsea Flower Show and 2023’s Best in Show for our adaptive garden for Horatio’s Garden. We were awarded Best Landscape Architecture Practice 2024 and Best Commercial Project (Biodiversity & Sustainability Awards 2024).

As collaborative teams we have won RIBA McEwen Award, Civic Trust Award and two MIPIM awards. Our studio features widely in international publications and is consistently included in Best Landscape Design Practice listings (Spears, House & Garden, Country Life).

Purposeful

The studio’s projects are frequently held up as exemplars of how contemporary landscape design can be both visually arresting and socially purposeful. With a strong sense of responsibility to the land, the client, and the wider community, Harris Bugg Studio works to:

Rebuild biodiversity and approach material use with integrity

Design with empathy and curiosity, to create places that are inclusive and memorable

Embed long-term value, not just visual impact Create landscapes that tell stories of place, rooted in history and the living qualities of site
