Harris Bugg Studio’s Horatio’s Garden Sheffield & East has received three honours at the 2026 Civic Trust Awards, recognising its design excellence and commitment to inclusive, accessible landscape design.

Created for Horatio’s Garden at the Princess Royal Spinal Injuries Centre in Sheffield, the project transforms a former hospital car park into a fully accessible garden supporting rehabilitation and wellbeing.

The judges described it as “an exemplar of inclusive, patient-led design” and “an outstanding benchmark for universal design within healthcare landscapes.”  Read more here.

Planning permission has been granted for the Barbican Renewal Programme, a serious milestone for an iconic place.

This has been a huge effort led by Allies and Morrison and The Planning Lab, working closely with Buro Happold, Asif Khan Studios and ourselves, in ongoing dialogue with the City of London Corporation and consultees including The Twentieth Century Society and Historic England.

We’re leading on the Conservatory planting renewal and long-term curatorial strategy, working closely with Conservatory Head Gardener Marta Lowcewicz and the horticultural team.

Planning approval matters, because it enables a full renewal of the Conservatory glass roof, building fabric and operational systems, so the infrastructure properly serves the horticultural work and the living collection can thrive.

Horatio’s Garden Sheffield & East has been further shortlisted for the Selwyn Goldsmith Universal Design Awards, selected as one of just six projects from over 300 UK entries.

Celebrating genuinely people-centred design, these awards recognise places that go beyond minimum standards to be inclusive, dignified and welcoming. The overall winner will be announced in March.

The garden has also been shortlisted by the Civic Trust Awards as one of 46 national and international projects, receiving either a Civic Trust Award or Highly Commended.
