A biodiverse landscape, rooted in the rhythms of the Highlands

Reimagined as a richly atmospheric Highland retreat, here landscape, architecture and water are seamlessly reconnected. Our design for the landscape draws the burn, the River Glass and the surrounding topography into the heart of the garden, creating a flowing sequence of meadows, planting islands and sensitive hard landscaping that enhances the site’s natural drama. Key moves include reducing hard standing, relocating parking out of sight, improving arrival, and strengthening views to the waterfall, burn and wider landscape.

Naturalistic planting wraps close to the house, feathering into a meadow shaped by subtle landform. Seasonal colour is choreographed through spring blossom and autumn foliage, anchoring the garden within its wider setting. Pathways, terraces and a cobbled courtyard use restrained, textural materials to create a soft, weathered character while improving access to the sauna, gym, plunge pool and guest areas. Repairs to existing steps and new boulder routes enhance the intimate space  beside the water.
