A historic Chiltern garden with soulful planting

Occupied since the Tudor period, this large estate in the heart of the Chilterns AONB required a new landscape to soften the addition of a wing to its historic property. With changes through the years, the residence is impressive, enjoying spectacular clear views across the Chiltern countryside towards Windsor Castle.

A new framework of grounded, meaningful gardens to surround the property and connect the architectural styles has been created. We designed, detailed and oversaw construction of the new landscape, including arrival driveway, a new walled garden, potting shed and productive garden, a series of entertaining terraces, a topiary garden, spring garden and broader interventions into the parkland.

Planting is soulful, structured, and seasonal – balancing naturalism with legibility.

“A considered approach – and pristine finish – underlies the studio’s work on this garden in the Chilterns.” – Country Life
