Award Win for Farringdon Courtyard Garden at the APLD Awards 2025

We’re delighted that our Farringdon Courtyard Garden has received a Silver Award in the Residential category at the 2025 APLD Awards, recognising excellence in landscape design worldwide.

Created above an underground car park in central London, the garden transforms a shaded podium space into a tranquil, fern-filled sanctuary. Inspired by the meaning of Farringdon – “fern-covered hill” – and the area’s heritage of metal craftsmanship, the design blends lush greenery with refined industrial detailing.

Tree ferns provide privacy and delicacy, while dark-painted walls and mirrors enhance depth and light. Designed around the site’s technical challenges – limited soil depth, restricted access and strict weight-loading – the scheme follows a “right plant, right place” ethos, using reclaimed materials and low-impact construction throughout.

This year, APLD awarded 59 projects across multiple categories, celebrating craftsmanship, attention to detail and excellence in execution.

Hugo Bugg joins Devon Gardens Trust

Hugo Bugg, co-founder of Harris Bugg Studio, has joined the Board of Trustees at the Devon Gardens Trust.

A graduate of Falmouth University, Hugo grew up in Devon, where his love of gardens began helping his dad create a family garden from scratch. He now lives in the county with his young family and is making a garden of his own – a place for his children to explore and connect with nature.

“It’s a privilege to support the Trust in caring for Devon’s rich collection of designed landscapes, past and present,” said Hugo.

The Devon Gardens Trust works to protect and celebrate the county’s designed landscape heritage – from historic parks and gardens to contemporary landscapes – through conservation, education and advocacy.

Jane Knight, Joint Chair of the Devon Gardens Trust, said:

“We’re delighted to welcome Hugo to the Board. His deep understanding of design and planting, and his strong connection to Devon, will be invaluable in helping us champion the county’s beautiful and historic landscapes.”
